Cynthia Engelsman, MMT, MT-BC
Founder, Cynthia Engelsman, is a board certified music therapist, certified Gerontologist, and also a certified Health Rhythms practitioner. She has provided music therapy services for individuals and groups in the Phoenix area and in southern Nevada. Ms. Engelsman has worked with children/adolescents, adults, seniors, and families in a variety of settings including home health, adult day programs, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient day programs, and clinic settings. In Nevada, Ms. Engelsman founded "Mojave Glee" the first adult choir program at Mojave Mental Health Outpatient Day Program. She created a musical "Summertime Cabaret" and documentary for NAMI awareness week discussing process and product orientated music therapy interventions with adults with mental illness.
Currently in Phoenix Ms. Engelsman specializes in mental health and children/adults with sensory and emotional needs. Ms. Engelsman provides music therapy services through the activity therapy department at St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center, serving children-older adults and is also the co-internship supervisor by way of Arizona State University. As past President for the Arizona Music Therapy Association, Ms. Engelsman continues to advocate for music therapy and helps to connect the MT community here in AZ.
Ms. Engelsman received her bachelor of music in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, completed the music therapy equivalency program from Arizona State University (ASU), and went on to complete her Advanced Master of Music Therapy degree from ASU. During her Master's program, Ms. Engelsman was a graduate research assistant for the ASU School of Social work Gerontology Department; her clinical project focused on Chinese Americans with Dementia and their Caregivers.
Ms. Engelsman, lyric mezzo soprano, is currently a soloist and chorister with Congregation Kehillah and section leader with Arizona Musicfest Chorale. She has also sung and soloed with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Southwest, Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Harvard Summer Chorus. Some of her favorite performances include the role of second lady in Mozart's Magic Flute, the role of the Mother in Menotti's Amahl & the Night Visitors, Bach Cantata 140 with Arizona Music Festival Orchestra, and recording with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on the soundtrack "Mystic River," released on Warner Bros Records 2003.
